Your favorite bakery is now a B Corp!

An official recognition of our community and environmental impact.

As some of you may have heard through the grapevine, Moxie recently received a major honor in the world of sustainability and community impact. For years, we’ve been vocal advocates for heirloom grains, sustainable farming practices, breaking bread together, and building a bar-setting culture for our team. But with our new B Corp status, the proof is in the pudding—we actually walk that talk.

For those of you who knew Andy, you know he viewed bread as far more than food—it was a vehicle for connection, for storytelling, and for sparking meaningful change. Our business has always stayed the course he set: where every person matters and even a small community bakery can make a huge cultural impact. With his passing, we were presented with both a challenge and an opportunity to not only uphold what he built, but also to continue to expand his mission. This B Corp certification recognizes the efforts of the entire team that has been a part of his continued legacy.

Of course, we have a few other folks who deserve special thanks—including Maria McDonald, a Moxie Lyons team member, sustainability consultant and CU professor who has dedicated her career to understanding and promoting B Corp principles. With the help of her students in the CU Masters of the Environment program, we were able to thoroughly research and compile all the necessary data points to support our application. We truly could not have done it without them!

A few noteworthy facts we learned in the process:

- 95% of our significant suppliers are within a 50-mile radius!

Andy’s work in co-founding the Colorado Grain Chain has helped us become even more focused in our support of regional farmers.

- We positively impact disadvantaged communities in Colorado in a variety of ways, including: donations to food banks; participation in Tomorrow’s Bread; selling high-quality, nutrient-dense flour; and providing a living wage for our Boulder County employees!

We’re even more sustainable than we realized! While our bread ovens require their fair share of energy, our overall energy consumption is relatively low and our use of compostable / recyclable products makes a huge impact.

Of course, like any certification, the opportunity lies not only in achieving this milestone, but in upholding and even exceeding these standards. We look forward to continuing to raise the bar in the years to come and thank all of you for joining us on the journey.
